Research Papers
We solicit original
research papers on the theory, specification, design, and implementation of
data and information management systems. This includes, but is not limited
to, database engine functions, such as query languages, data models, query
processing, views, integrity constraints, triggers, access methods, and
transactions in centralized, distributed, replicated, parallel, mobile, and
wireless environments; extended data types, such as multimedia, spatial and
temporal data, and system engineering issues, such as performance, high
availability, security, manageability, and ease-of-use; middleware and
tools that exploit database technology, such as workflow, advanced
transaction processing features, application servers, object monitors,
services in support of e-commerce and e-governance, mediators and other
web-oriented data facilities, metadata repositories, data and process
modeling, web services, user interfaces and data visualization, data
translation and migration, data cleaning, multi-agent systems, system
management, information retrieval tools, digital libraries.
Industrial Papers
We invite
submissions covering innovative commercial database implementations, novel
applications of database technology, and experience in applying recent
research advances to practical situations. Such papers should describe
innovative implementations, new approaches to fundamental challenges, or
major technical improvements to the state-of-the-practice.
Panel Proposals
We invite panel
proposals that discuss new, exciting, and controversial issues of
importance to the conference's audience. Panels should not simply be a
sequence of short presentations by the panelists, but should aim to spur a
lively debate that involves the audience. Proposals should include a
summary of the topic and a list of confirmed participants and their
qualifications. It is mandatory that the planned panelists have already
committed themselves to participating, should the panel be accepted.
The proposal should
include the topic title, a short statement about the importance and
relevance of the panel and the potential issues of controversy, a tentative
list of questions that will be posed to the panelists, a list of confirmed
participants along with their affiliation, and a short bio of each
participant.
Short panel
summaries will appear in the Proceedings.
Tutorial Proposals
We invite the
submission of proposals for tutorials relating to all aspects of data
management, and particularly encourage work on topics of emerging interest
in the database research and development communities.
Tutorial proposals
must clearly identify the intended audience. and include enough material to
provide a sense of both the scope of material to be covered and the depth
to which it will be covered. Tutorials can run for either 3 hours or 1.5
hours. Please indicate which of
these time periods are suitable for your proposal. If you can work with either length, be
sure that your proposal makes clear the content of both the long and short
versions.
Additional
materials (draft slides, etc.) may be submitted or referenced by URL, and
these materials will be considered at the discretion of the program
committee.
Copyright Information
Authors of accepted
papers will need to sign a publisher’s copyright release form and present
their paper at the conference. The proceedings will be released shortly
after the camera-ready copy date, so any patent applications should be made
before then.

Research and
Industrial Papers
Research
and Industrial papers should be submitted electronically using a conference
management tool, which will be made available on the conference web-site by
June 27, 2004 (the submission
deadline is 9.00 pm PST on July 10, 2004).
Panel and Tutorial
Proposals
Panel
and tutorial proposals should be sent by email to their respective chairs:
·
Panels - Kamal Karlapalem (kamal[at]iiit.net)
·
Tutorials
- Sunita Sarawagi
(sunita[at]it.iitb.ac.in)
before
the submission deadline of 9.00 pm PST on July 17, 2004.
All
papers should be formatted as per the formatting specifications given below.
Duplicate
Submissions Policy
Duplicate
submissions are not allowed for the COMAD conference. A paper submitted to
COMAD cannot be under review for any other conference or journal, and has
to be substantially different from previously published work. Authors
submitting papers to COMAD conference are expected to agree to the
following terms:
"I understand that the
paper being submitted must not contain substantial overlap with any other
paper currently submitted elsewhere. Furthermore, previously published
papers with any overlap are cited prominently in this submission."
Duplicate
submissions will be rejected. Questions about this policy or how it applies
to your work should be directed to the program chair, Jayant Haritsa
(haritsa[at]dsl.serc.iisc.ernet.in).

Length
and Layout
Both submissions for refereeing and final copy
for the proceedings must be laid out according to the Camera Ready Copy
format described below. It is the
author's responsibility to make the paper readable, relevant and
interesting before submission for consideration by referees. This includes
legibility of diagrams and quality of English.
Camera Ready Copy format: The page format must be double-column and single-spaced in 9pt or
larger font and formatted for Letter/A4 size paper, with at least 1 inch
margins at the top and bottom, 0.75 inch margins on the left and right
sides, and 0.33 inch gap between the columns.
To help you easily format your submissions, the
following files are provided:
·
comad2005.cls -
For Latex users
·
comad2005.dot -
For Microsoft Word users
A sample Latex document
archive that confirms to the formatting guidelines is also available.
Page Limits
- Research
and Industrial Papers
Maximum of TWELVE (12) Letter/A4 pages in the above Camera Ready Copy format. This includes
all parts of the paper: title, abstract, body, and bibliography.
Up to two extra pages of Appendix can be submitted
but it will be with the understanding that: (1) they are only appendices,
(2) reviewers might not consider these additional pages, and (3) the final
camera ready cannot be longer than 12 pages.
